Today we celebrate the signing of the Declaration of Independence, which marks July 4, 1776, as the day our Founding Fathers declared our freedom as a nation. What’s interesting is that it wasn’t until 1783 that our nation actually experienced freedom. There were battles raging, but the people were celebrating their decision to fight for freedom. They declared their freedom first, then they stood their ground until they had the victory to live as free men and women. There may be some opposing forces that you’re fighting today, things that you want to get free from—freedom from an addiction, an anxiety, a lack, a fear. No matter what battle you are facing, let this be the day you declare your freedom, because victory is on the way. You may have to stand and press through for a little while, but know that freedom is yours the day you declare it. Let freedom ring loudly in your life and embrace the victory He has in store for you, for he whom the Son sets free is free indeed!
“Father, thank You that it was for freedom that Christ set me free, and whom the Son sets free is free indeed. Thank You that I can take my stand on Christ’s finished work on the cross and press through on the freedoms I am battling for. I declare the victory through Christ Jesus. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Your perception of God will have a great impact on whether or not you become all you were created to be. Notice in today’s Scripture that to receive His mercy and grace, you have to go boldly. You won’t go boldly if you think God is mad at you. You may have lost your temper, run with the wrong crowd, or ruined your marriage. Mercy is available, new beginnings are available, but it’s not going to happen if you stay down on yourself, feeling unworthy. Get rid of that defeated mentality. God is not holding your mistakes against you. When you come to Him, He won’t say, “I’m so disappointed. What’s wrong with you?” He will gladly welcome you. If you only knew that God is standing before you right now with open arms. He made you in His own image, and you are His most valuable possession. He says, “See, I have tattooed your name on the palms of My hands.” He knows your thoughts before you think them. There’s nothing more important to God than you. Come boldly and receive His mercy.
“Father, thank You that I can come boldly before You, knowing that there is always mercy and grace to help me. Thank You that I don’t have to earn Your favor or be good enough to come into Your presence. I am coming to pray bold prayers and to receive new beginnings. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Is your face unveiled today? Are you wearing masks to cover your weaknesses, your failures, your doubts and fears? As long as your face is veiled, you won’t see God’s glory. You won’t see the freedom, the wholeness, the abundance that He has for you. Why don’t you take off the mask? Perhaps you think, “What will people think if I don’t hide my weaknesses? What if they know that I still struggle in this area and need help?” They’ll think you’re real. They’ll think you’re brave. They’ll think you’re honest. And for those who might look down on you, what they think about you doesn’t stop your destiny. Quit worrying about what they think. There’s always going to be someone who doesn’t understand you, won’t be for you, and tries to make you feel small. But there will be other people God has ordained to be there to help you, to bring you out of the struggle, to lift you when you’re down, to speak victory when you feel defeated. It is so much better to be real, to be vulnerable.
“Father, thank You for the invitation to drop my masks and deal openly and honestly with the hidden issues that hold me back. Thank You for the promise that You are transforming me from glory to glory. I believe that You are working right now to lift me to another level. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

You won’t be successful as long as you have a negative image of yourself. Like a magnet, the image you have of yourself will keep pulling you toward it. If you see yourself struggling, barely getting by, having a scarcity mentality, that’s what you’re moving toward. What would happen if you started seeing yourself as blessed, prosperous, talented, having a bountiful year? Then because you have the right image, because you’re in agreement with God, you’d be moving toward abundance, overflow, good breaks, a bountiful life. You’d put your shoulders back and carry yourself as the royalty God created you to be. God’s Word says that when we face adversities, “the Lord delivers us out of them all.” It says that when the enemy comes in like a flood, God will raise up a barrier. If you see yourself as a victor and not a victim, then even in tough times you’ll stay confident, hopeful, expecting God’s favor, knowing that He didn’t bring you this far to leave you. He hasn’t failed you in the past, and He’s not going to start now.
“Father, thank You that I can start this day with a fresh new attitude because You dwell in me and have given me a new nature. Thank You that I can get in agreement with Your Word and believe what You say about me. I’m going to be my best and make the most of this day. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

On the day that David’s father told David to take a supply of food to his three brothers who were in the army and caught in a standoff with the Philistines, he thought he was just running an errand, no big deal. It seemed like it was just another ordinary day when, in fact, it was a destiny moment. In the sovereignty of God, David arrived just as Goliath came out and threatened the Israelite army. He was at the right place at the right time to become the champion of the Israelites and defeat Goliath. If he would have been three hours later, he wouldn’t have heard Goliath. If he had refused to deliver the food to brothers who didn’t appreciate him, he would have missed his destiny. God was ordering his steps, and He is ordering your steps. David’s purpose came tracking him down, and your purpose will come tracking you down. You think you’re just going to work, just taking care of the kids, when God turns it into your destiny moment and you defeat your giant.
“Father, thank You that in the routine of my ordinary days You break in with these destiny moments that change everything. Thank You that You’re orchestrating what You’ve ordained for my life to be fulfilled. I believe that even now You’re lining up what I need. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

It’s one thing to have the desire to live for God and do what pleases Him. That’s great, but God doesn’t stop there. He says, “I’m going to give you the power to do it. I’m going to give you the favor, the courage, the skill, and the resources that you need.” You’re going to feel strength that you’ve never felt, ability that you’ve never had, favor like you’ve never seen. God doesn’t just give you the desire; He gives you the ability to accomplish what He puts in your heart. God has destiny desires lined up for you, things you want to accomplish that He drops in your heart. Others will think it’s too big, it doesn’t make sense. They’re intimidated. It’s because God didn’t put the desire in them. That desire is leading you down the best path—a path of abundance, a path of greater influence, a path of helping more people, making a bigger difference, seeing your gifts come out in greater ways. Get ready. That desire will be stronger than anything that tries to hold you back.
“Father, thank You that You are working in me and giving me desires to do Your will and the power to do it. Thank You that I have the strength to overcome and be disciplined to do the right thing. I believe that You are leading me down the best path for my life. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

After David killed Goliath, King Saul became so jealous of David’s popularity that he repeatedly tried to kill him. David could have fought back and killed Saul, but he recognized that Saul had been anointed as the king. David respected that he was under God’s authority, so he spent years in the wilderness being chased by Saul. More than once David could have easily killed Saul, but he spared his life. God could trust David with so much influence, honor, and resources because he kept passing the test. Even when he was under great pressure, he was kind and respectful to someone who wasn’t kind to him. When you treat people that way, you’re proving to God that you can handle more influence and responsibility. This is a major test. To go where God wants you to go, you have to be good to people who are not good to you. When you let God refine you and don’t let the offense get in but stay in peace, you’re going to see God’s favor and blessing in great ways.
“Father, thank You that You are refining my character and using the pressure of difficult relationships to make me stronger and grow me up. Thank You that You are fighting my battles and helping me to be respectful and kind. I am going to stay in peace and see Your favor. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

When God told Moses to tell Pharaoh to let the Israelite slaves go free, Moses made the excuse that he couldn’t do it because he stuttered. God said, “Moses, who made your mouth?” Do you think God would ask you to do something and then not give you the ability to do it? Do you think He would not give you everything you need to live a victorious life, to overcome obstacles, to excel and leave your mark? Moses had the wrong story. He was telling himself, “I’m unqualified. I have these limitations.” The story you believe is the story that’s going to come to pass. When you tell God you’re not talented and can’t do something significant, God responds, “Who made you? Who wrote your story? Who gave you your gifts? Who picked out your family? Who lined up your good breaks? Who planned out your days?” The Creator of the universe is your author. He’s written your story. You’re not doing life on your own. Go back to what He says about you.
“Father, thank You for the gifts and the talents You put in me. Thank You that You made me and whatever You ask me to do You will make sure I have the ability to do it. I will be faithful to develop what You’ve given me and to know that You are with me in my story. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

First Samuel 30 records the greatest defeat David had ever suffered. He and his six hundred men returned from a mission only to find their city burned, their wives and children kidnapped by Amalekite bandits, and all their possessions stolen. Then David’s men started blaming him and talked about stoning him. It wasn’t fair that the wrong thing happened when David was doing the right thing. But God doesn’t promise that life will always be fair. It’s what we do in these unfair times that determines whether we get stuck and let it sour the rest of our lives or whether we move forward and see God expand us. What made David a champion is that he shook off the defeated mind-set and went forward to recover all that had been taken plus spoils from the bandits. He understood the principle that you have to get up when you’ve been knocked down and not use it as an excuse to stop. On the other side of the excuse is expansion, a new level of our destiny.
“Father, thank You that Your power to strengthen me in times of unfairness is greater than any force that comes against me. Thank You that I can put discouragement behind me and push forward in faith. I believe that expansion is coming—something greater, something better. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

The Pharisees made the mistake of trying to put their human limitations on the God who spoke worlds into existence. But God is not limited by the laws of medicine, the laws of economics, the laws of nature, or the laws of science. The religious leaders could not stop Him from working in other people’s lives. They did, however, miss out on what He would have done for them. When God is ready to bless you, He doesn’t check with your boss, doesn’t look at your 401(k), doesn’t google the stock market report, doesn’t see who your friends are, or ask what family you come from. He’s not moved by the natural. He’s not stuck in the category of what you or someone else can do. He’s supernatural. He will open doors that no person can shut. The Most High God is breathing in your direction right now. All He needs is a little faith. When you get in agreement with Him, there is a force behind you that will make things happen that you can’t make happen.
“Father, thank You that You are the Most High God and You are not limited by what limits me. Help me to remember that You can do the impossible when I’m tempted to stay stuck in the natural. I believe that You can take me where I can’t go on my own. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

When Jesus came to the Earth, He went around doing good, healing people, showing mercy, but the religious leaders didn’t accept Him. Even though He had done no wrong, they falsely tried him, forced him to carry His own cross to be crucified. Hanging on the cross, He could have called angels to rescue Him, but He didn’t. He hung there for you and for me. The nails didn’t hold Him on the cross; love held Him on the cross. It was all a part of God’s plan to destroy the works of the enemy, the reason for which He came to Earth. Jesus went before us and crushed Satan’s head. He took away all His power. Now we can live a victorious life. Whatever you’re facing—trouble at work, a child who’s off course, mistakes you’ve made, guilt, condemnation—may be intimidating and seem harmful, but it’s not what you think. You can’t let fear or worry dominate. You just have to take steps forward and discover that Jesus has already gone before you and defeated those enemies.
“Father, thank You that Jesus has destroyed the works of the devil, crushed his head, and broken his power. Thank You that no matter what the enemy sends against me, it’s not what it looks like. When Moses sent twelve men to spy out the Promised Land, ten spies came back intimidated and afraid. They felt like grasshoppers because they didn’t understand that God will put you in situations where you’re the underdog. You don’t have the skill, the resources, the training, the connections. As the Israelites did, if you stay focused on what you don’t have, you’ll talk yourself out of what God has for you. The right approach is, “I may feel like a grasshopper, but I know that God being for me is greater than the world being against me.” So what do you think about what you have? Are you discounting what God has given you? God has given you the talent, the courage, the skills, the looks, and the personality you need. Don’t go through life thinking you’re at a disadvantage, that you’re lacking. People may think you’re a grasshopper, but don’t underestimate yourself. Don’t talk yourself out of the greatness God put in you. You’ll be amazed at where you can go with your talent, your courage, your faith, and your determination.

Jesus went around doing good, healing people, and feeding the hungry, yet people ridiculed Him, slandered Him, told lies about Him. The religious leaders said, “He’s from the devil. That’s how He can heal people.” Jesus couldn’t have been any more loving, kind, and generous, but certain people were determined to misunderstand Him, mischaracterize Him, and misjudge Him. What did Jesus do? Spend all His energy trying to straighten them out and prove to them who He was? No. He answered them not a word. He didn’t waste His time trying to convince people to be for Him who were never going to be for Him. You would think with all the negative talk, with all the rumors, slander, and lies, He would have missed His purpose. But people don’t control your destiny. They can defame, denounce, and mischaracterize you, but your reputation is in God’s hands. What they say cannot stop your purpose. Don’t make the mistake of engaging in battles you’re not supposed to engage in. Do as Jesus did and answer them not a word. Don’t pay any attention.
“Father, thank You that Jesus didn’t worry about His reputation and how much and how often He was disrespected. Thank You for His example that I don’t have to waste my time and energies trying to prove who I am or change what others think of me. I will not answer them a word. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Sometimes God will remove things in our lives that we don’t understand. Perhaps He will remove a friendship, someone who’s pulling us down, causing us to compromise. We don’t like change. We were comfortable. Now we’re going to have to stretch and grow. Don’t fight the pruning of the branch. God knows what He’s doing. He’s not going to leave something on you that will keep you from your purpose. He’ll never ask you to do something and then not give you the ability to do it. God is merciful, and He’ll give us a sign sometimes. In Daniel 3, when three Hebrew teenagers were thrown into the fiery furnace because they wouldn’t bow to King Nebuchadnezzar’s golden idol, not only did they survive without being harmed, but their enemies saw a fourth man, one “like the Son of God,” with them. What’s interesting is that the teenagers couldn’t see the fourth man. When you’re in the fire, in the adversity, you may not see what God is doing. You don’t think anything is changing or improving. But you can be sure the fourth man is in there with you. The beauty of our God is that He never lets you go in the fire alone. Meanwhile, the king was stunned. He had the teenagers brought out and decreed that no one in the nation speak against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Sometimes God lets you go through the fire so other people will see the hand of God on your life. They’ll see that the cancer or the bad break or the betrayal couldn’t take you out. One definition of hope is “the happy anticipation of something good.” If you’re anticipating something good, for a dream to be fulfilled, it brings you joy and gives you passion. When you believe that God is arranging blessings in your favor, you’re going to be excited about life.
It will affect your attitudes, your relationships, and your productivity. But if you’re not anticipating anything good, if you think you’re stuck, that a problem is permanent, that you’ve reached your limits, that mind-set will drain your energy, stifle your creativity, and take your joy. You’ll just drag through the day as you endure life. God created you to have something to look forward to. Faith is all about believing that God has good plans for you, that He’s taking you where you’ve never gone, and that the best days of your health, finances, and relationships are still in front of you. That’s not just being positive; that’s getting in agreement with God. That’s what allows Him to do amazing things and bring your dreams to fulfillment as a tree of life. 🌳
“Father, thank You for the hope rising in my heart that You have good things in store for me. Thank You that my hope is secure in who You are, that You never fail, and that You will bring my dreams to fulfillment. I expect to see You do amazing things. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Do you need to take off a mask today? Do you need to quit pretending, hiding a weakness or sin that you need to deal with? In the Scriptures, the Pharisees were known for doing things for show, trying to create a religious image of who they wanted people to think they were, instead of just being who they were. It’s easy to start living image-driven. “I want you to see me as someone greater, smarter, prettier, and more popular than others.” But the truth is that who God made you to be is the best you. You don’t need the image; just be you. You’re already made in the image of God, which is the best image possible. You don’t need to pretend. You don’t need to do things for show and play games. You have no reason to live to please people. Having their approval is overrated. It doesn’t move you toward your destiny. Be confident in who God made you to be. You’re going to live freer, happier, more fulfilled, and become all you were created to be.
“Father, thank You for the invitation to drop my masks and deal openly and honestly with the hidden issues that hold me back. Search my heart and show me where my motives are wrong and where I’m pretending. I want to be real so You can use me for Your highest purposes. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

After the Israelites were delivered from slavery and were in the wilderness, they had a large tent or tabernacle where they met for worship. Before the priests could go into the altar area, they had to cleanse their hands and feet in a large bronze basin of water that had been made from the mirrors their Egyptian captors had given the Israelite women when they left. Mirrors in that day were made out of highly polished bronze and were very valuable. But every time the women looked in those mirrors, they saw defeated slaves staring back at them, reminding them of how unfair it was, how inferior they were. God was saying, “Give me those mirrors. I’m melting down any image—the shame, the heartache, the guilt, the unworthiness—that does not reflect who I made you to be. Zacchaeus was the despised chief tax collector in the region, known for cheating people and called a notorious sinner. Yet when Jesus could have spent time with any of the local religious leaders, He chose Zacchaeus, which they found disgusting. Religion says, “He’s too bad. He’s scum. Stay away.” Sometimes religion portrays an image of God where you can’t measure up, and it uses guilt and your feelings of unworthiness to try to get you to live right. But God says, “I gladly welcome Zacchaeus. What he has done does not cancel out My mercy.” When Zacchaeus came to understand that God loved him unconditionally, even when he had made mistakes, he decided to change his ways and salvation came to him. Sometimes we think that if we tell people all they’re doing wrong and make them feel guilty, they’ll change. But condemnation doesn’t make them do better. It is when they hear about a God who shows mercy when they deserve judgment that they’ll change. The Scripture says, “It’s the goodness of God that leads to repentance.”
“Father, thank You that even though You know everything about me, You still invite Yourself to come to my house for dinner and bring the gift of salvation. Thank You that it’s not about my performance, about being good enough, about being worthy, but it’s about Your love. Welcome to my house. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

David was looking back over his life, thinking, “How did I get to where I am today? I was a shepherd, and now I’m a king. I’m respected. I have a lasting dynasty.” He was saying, “It could only be one thing—the Sovereign God.” Five times in the next few verses he refers to God as sovereign. He says, “Sovereign Lord, You have promised good things to me.” Can I tell you that the Sovereign Lord has good things for you. It’s not based on how well you perform, who likes you, what family you come from, or what the economy does. There are blessings and breakthroughs that God has already written in your script. Instead of worrying, thinking that it’s never going to happen, trying to earn it, why don’t you do as David did and say, “Sovereign Lord, thank You for the good things You have in store for me. Thank You for choosing me before I could choose You. Thank you for not depending on my performance, my faith, or my circumstances, but blessing me because of Your goodness.”
“Father, thank You for being on Your throne, for reigning as sovereign over my health, my finances, my family, and my circumstances. Thank You that You are my provider, my healer, my way maker, my deliverer. I declare that I am where I am today because of Your sovereignty. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

When God brought the Israelites out of slavery and took them to the Promised Land, He promised that all they had to do was go in and take the land. But the Israelites were too afraid of the people in the land and turned away. They spent forty years in the desert running from things that God promised they could conquer. The next generation of Israelites came back to the Promised Land, saw the same giants and fortified cities, but had a different attitude. They refused to spend their lives wandering in the desert. They declared to Joshua that they would do whatever he commanded, face the opposition, and take the same land their parents could have had. Don’t be like the Israelites and spend years of your life running from things God has already given you victory over. You may need to confront pride, confront a bad attitude, or confront compromise. When you face your fears, defeat bad habits, or forgive the wrongs and hurts others have caused, you will enter your promised land. The victory is already yours.🏅✌
“Father, thank You that You are the Most High God and that no giant or stronghold is too great for You. Thank You that You are leading me into my promised land as I confront and face areas of my life that have held me back. Help me to be bold to take my promised land. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Everyone in your life is fighting a battle. They’re dealing with something. They may not show it, but there’s a load they’re carrying. Thoughts are telling them that it’s not going to work out. It is always good to pray for others, but today’s Scripture also says, “Say to the righteous that it’s going to work out. Everything’s going to be okay.” Just give a word of encouragement when they’re under a heavy load. Just let them know that you care, remind them that God is still on the throne. You don’t have to have all the answers to their problems. It’s easy to feel intimidated because sometimes the situation is so complicated. Different people may be involved from very different backgrounds, and you’re not sure what to tell them about what they are going through.
But you don’t have to solve the problem; that’s God’s job.
Your part is to just nourish their soul and say,
“I care about you. I’m standing with you.
You’re going to make it.”
Those kind words are what put people back on their feet.
“Father, thank You for Your hand of blessing in my life. I ask You to work through me and help me to speak kind words, offer compliments, give encouragement, and lift up those around me. Help me to listen and to bring Your healing presence into others’ lives. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Many times when the people faced a big challenge in the Old Testament, they started their prayer by talking about the greatness of God. In today’s Scripture, King Jehoshaphat had three armies surrounding Judah. He gathered the people at the city square in Jerusalem to seek God. He didn’t say, “God, where are You? We’re about to be captured.” He said, “Lord, You alone are God. You are the ruler of the nations. You are powerful and mighty. No one can stand against you. We remember how you brought us through war, through famine, through disease. Now we’re asking you, O great God, to deliver us from these mighty armies.” When you remind yourself of who you’re dealing with, you won’t pray weak prayers. You’ll pray boldly. You’ll ask God to do the impossible, what seems unlikely. Those are prayers that get God’s attention. The people of Judah didn’t even have to fight. The enemy armies turned on each other and defeated themselves. Where will you be in ten years if you do as Jehoshaphat did and start praying bold prayers?
“Father, thank You that You are the great God who is in Heaven, the ruler of the nations, and You are fighting my battles. Thank You for how You go beyond my requests and exceed my expectations. I believe that You will do exceedingly abundantly above all that I ask or think. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

In Mark 5, a lady had been sick for twelve years, spent all her money going to many doctors, but nothing helped. Her story was: “This sickness is permanent. There’s nothing else I can do.” But then she heard that Jesus was passing through her town. Despite how she felt, despite the circumstances and all she’d been told, she deleted her old story and started telling herself a new story. She said, “When I touch His garments, I’m going to be healed.”
Faith began to rise in her heart. She kept saying to herself, “Healing is coming.”
Pressing through the crowd, she touched His robe and was healed instantly. It’s easy to let defeated thoughts, “can’t do it” thoughts, “it’s never going to work out” thoughts, play in your mind.
You have to say, “No, I’m deleting this story. I will be the exception. I will get well. I will see my family restored. I will break this addiction. I will accomplish my dream.”
Give God something to work with. You can’t have an old story and see the new things He wants to do.
“Father, thank You that I have the power to delete the thoughts that keep me trapped in an old story of defeat. Thank You that my faith can open the way for You to do amazing things and write a new story. I am reaching out and touching You by faith today, knowing that victory will be mine. Jesus defeated the prince of this world, but that doesn’t mean you won’t face difficulties. The enemy will come, but you can say, as Jesus did, “He has no power over me. He’s already been defeated.” We didn’t defeat him; Jesus did. But because we belong to Christ, His victory is our victory. Because He lives, we can live. Because He rendered the enemy powerless, we can walk in freedom. To see this victory, you can’t have a defeated mind-set when you face fear and feel intimidated. The right attitude is to declare, “The enemy has no power over me.” He used to have power. He used to have the keys to death and hell, but Jesus took away those keys and gave them to us. Now we have authority. Now we can live in victory. When things come against you, instead of being under attack, you need to be on the attack. Never shrink back in fear or worry, knowing that every force that’s trying to stop you has been defeated. Move forward knowing that God always causes you to triumph.
“Father, thank You for sending Your champion, Christ Jesus, who is far more powerful than the enemy. Thank You that the enemy has no power over me because He has no power over Jesus. I will walk in the liberty by which Christ has set me free. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

In Daniel 6, when Daniel was one of the three top administrators in King Darius’s kingdom, he was falsely accused and thrown into the lions’ den. Much to everyone’s surprise, God sent an angel to shut the lions’ mouths, and Daniel went on to prosper at a new level in his faithful service to the kings. It’s interesting that when you face your biggest battles, the most unfair, unjust attacks, that’s a sign that you’re close to seeing your greatest victories, your biggest accomplishments, your most rewarding relationships. The enemy always fights you the hardest when he knows you’re close to a new level of your destiny. Don’t settle where you are, reliving the hurt, thinking about what didn’t work out, and saying, “God, where were You?” God never left you. He’s been right by your side. Your part is simply to move forward in faith, trusting that He’s working all things for your good. As with David, you’re going to see God show out in your life. He’s going to do something unusual, out of the ordinary, that catapults you to a new level.
“Father, thank You that You know everything that is going on in my life and all that is coming against me. Thank You that You haven’t left me on my own, but that You step in and defend me when I need it. I’m not going to try to convince the wrong people, but I’ll just keep moving forward in faith. When you gave your life to Christ and were born again, the Scripture says, “You became a new creation. The old has passed away.” However, that doesn’t mean that you’ll never have any more carnal desires or never want to be jealous, rude, or complain. No, the old man may have died, but sometimes he’ll resurrect. Your old nature will rise from the dead. Even though you’re a new creation, you have to put off the old. Every day that old man is trying to get back up and run your life. Peter was a faithful, strong, committed disciple who took up his sword when Jesus was arrested, but a few hours later he denied he knew Jesus. As with Peter, we all have these two people inside, the old man and the new man. That’s why we have to put off the old man, put off the pride, the bitterness, the compromise, the temper, and put on the new man. The more you put the old man off, the weaker and weaker he gets.
“Father, thank You that I am a new creation in Christ Jesus and that the old has passed away. Thank You that I can put off anything of the old man today and start with a fresh new attitude. I’m going to be my best and make the most of this day. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

When Nehemiah heard that the walls of Jerusalem, his home city, had been torn down and burned, and that the people who survived were in great danger, he wept. He was heartbroken.💔 For days he mourned.😔 He asked God to do something. Even though he was a thousand miles away from Jerusalem and had no means to do anything himself, God put a dream in his heart 💭 to go back home and rebuild those walls.👷 And amazingly, he did.👊 It’s significant that Nehemiah was weeping over what he wanted to make better. His heart was broken over the wrongs that he saw. This wasn’t about having a big position, being well known, acquiring more. His dream was tied to building the kingdom, helping people rise higher, seeing his family reach their potential. When your heart is to make a difference, when your motives are right, when you’re moved over people you want to help, moved over loved ones who are struggling, you will see God do miracles. God is looking for Nehemiahs, for people He can entrust with influence, with favor, with resources.🙏
“Father, thank You for the burdens that You put in my heart for others and for the work of Your kingdom. Thank You that my heart can break and I can weep over what I know breaks Your heart. I believe that You are going to help me make a difference in others’ lives. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

How many times is God speaking to us throughout the day but we’re not sensitive to it? Perhaps it’s just a whisper, “Slow down on the freeway. Be kinder to your spouse. Call your friend and give her some encouragement. Turn off the computer and get some more sleep. Take care of yourself.” Gentle whispers. They’re not loud. God is not going to force you to do it. It’s just an impression. The word “obey” in the original language means “give ear to.” To be obedient, you have to give your ear to what God is saying. You have to be a listener. Be sensitive to the whisper. What are you feeling in your spirit? It may not be words, just a knowing deep down of what you’re supposed to do. Other voices, thoughts, reasonings, and people’s opinions will be much louder, but you have to learn to give the whispers the most attention. When you let the still small voice be the voice you follow, you’ll make the best decisions.
“Father, thank You that You speak to me throughout my day in gentle whispers in my spirit. Help me to give ear to what You are saying rather than push it down or ignore it. I will listen to Your still small voice and obey. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

When Jesus was on earth, everywhere He went people would come up and say, “Will You heal my child? Please come to my town. Teach us about Your kingdom. Show us a sign.” As the Son of God, He was anointed with power and went about doing good and healing, yet He knew His limits. He knew when He had to take time to get replenished, so He often withdrew to pray and be refreshed in His Father’s presence. We should know our limits as well. Are you burning out, wearing yourself down, taking time and energy from the main things you need to do? You make your own schedule. Don’t make commitments that you know are not wise for your health. You can’t just keep adding to your schedule without depleting yourself. You have to be selective about what you commit to and perhaps even eliminate some good things in order to stay healthy. It’s not about living selfishly; it’s all about living in balance. Are there some things you need to say no to?
“Father, thank You that Jesus constantly went about doing good and healing, yet He knew His limits. Nehemiah was courageously leading the effort to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem and restore safety to its inhabitants when two men, Sanballat and Tobiah, opposed him. They started stirring up trouble, spreading rumors about Nehemiah’s motives, making false accusations, and gathering other enemies to stop the work. But however much Nehemiah was tempted to straighten them out, he refused to be baited into conflict and kept working, completing the walls in record time. He put his reputation and purpose in God’s hands and focused on what he was called to do. It’s no different today. Anytime you step up to do the right thing, don’t be surprised if someone finds fault, questions your motives, and says things that are not true. If you were sitting around being mediocre, no one would care. The fact that people are trying to discredit you, trying to make you look bad, that’s a sign that you’re doing something right, you’re making a difference, you’re leaving your mark.
You keep doing the right thing, and God will take care of Sanballat and Tobiah.

David had a history of being underestimated. Of the eight sons of Jesse, David was the youngest, the smallest, considered the runt of the litter. When the prophet Samuel came to anoint one of his father’s sons as the next king of Israel, Jesse didn’t call him in from the shepherds’ fields. He considered David less than his brothers, not strong enough or experienced enough or good enough. Jesse’s oldest son, Eliab, was tall, strong, muscular, attractive, in the military. He looked like a king. Even Samuel thought he was a perfect choice. But God loves to choose the underdog, the least likely, the one others write off. David had the heart of a king, which made him God’s choice. Eliab would later belittle David and try to make him feel small in front of some other soldiers. David could have easily been talked out of what God put in his heart, but he refused to let others determine his value. You have to do as David did and let your heart be fully His. You’ll have the heart of a king.

You’ll wake up and think about all your problems and everything you’ve done wrong. Don’t start the day off negative. It goes on to say, “Keep it set.” That implies things are going to happen that will try to unset it—challenges, delays, rude people, doors that close. You can’t stop that from happening, but you can choose to not let it get inside and unset your mind. You could get down and disappointed, but your mind is set. “God, I trust You. Keep it full of praise, keep expecting good things, keep believing for what God promised.

Whether we realize it or not, when we go around speaking negative words over ourself, we’re actually cursing our future. You have enough people in life against you, so don’t be against yourself. The enemy would love for you to go around feeling wrong inside, as though you’re not up to par, you’re at a disadvantage. Too many people swallow that bait and go around speaking defeat. “I don’t have a good personality. I’m too old. I don’t have what it takes to be successful. I wish I had my cousin’s good looks.” No, you’ve been made in the image of God. When you criticize yourself as less-than, you are criticizing God’s creation. As a child, Mephibosheth had been crippled in an accident and could not walk. He was born into royalty, but his grandfather Saul and father, Jonathan, had been killed. Now he was living as an adult in Lo-Debar, one of the poorest, run-down cities of that day. When King David found out Mephibosheth was alive, he sent his men to carry Mephibosheth to the palace. He restored to Mephibosheth all the land that belonged to Saul and allowed Mephibosheth to live in the palace and sit at the king’s table. Mephibosheth couldn’t believe it. I love this picture of Mephibosheth being carried to the palace. In 2 Kings 4, the creditors were coming to take a poor widow’s two sons as the payment for her bills. All she had of value was a small jar of oil. The prophet Elisha told her to ask her neighbors for empty jars. He specifically said, “Don’t ask for just a few.” When she poured her oil in them, it kept flowing until all the jars were full. She was able to sell the oil and had plenty of money to pay her debts. The principle is that God is going to fill all the containers you bring Him. It’s not a supply problem; it’s a capacity problem. Too often we let disappointments, delays, and things that haven’t worked out lower our expectations. We’re not stretching, not believing for great things. Are you putting limits on what God wants to do in your life? Are you focused on what you think can happen only in your ability? God has an unlimited supply for all your needs. Don’t base your containers on what you can do; base them on what God can do.
“Father, thank You that You are the Most High God who has given me gifts and talents and resources. Thank You that You can take what seems like it’s not enough for my needs, and You can make it flow into abundance.

We all face things we don’t understand, things that don’t seem fair, but you have to know that God will not mismanage your life. He will not allow hardships and bad breaks that don’t have any purpose. He doesn’t just sit back and say, “I can’t believe that just happened to you. Too bad.” He’s ordering your steps. Nothing happens without His permission. He’s promised that all things will work together for our good. Sure, there are things we don’t understand, things that don’t make sense. But if you stay in faith, don’t get bitter, and just keep doing the right thing, you’ll see it all come together in time. Today’s Scripture says to simply trust God and don’t try to figure out everything that happens along the way. If you try to figure out all the things that happen that don’t make sense, you’ll get confused and discouraged. Put it in God’s hands. “God, I believe that You have a purpose for this problem. In Joshua 10, Joshua was winning a battle against five armies, but darkness was coming and the enemy would escape, so he prayed a bold prayer. He asked God to stop the sun in place. In the natural, there’s no possibility of this, but God created the solar system. He spoke the universe into existence. He can stop what He wants to stop and still cause it to work. The next verse simply says, “So the sun and the moon stood still until the Israelites defeated their enemies.” No big explanation for this amazing occurrence. God is not intimidated by bold prayers, and He’s not at a loss to figure out how to bring about His purpose. Stopping the sun was no big deal. Are you praying bold prayers? Maybe not for the sun to stop, but how about for your child to do something awesome, for you to set a new standard for your family, for you to accomplish that dream that seems far out? God put the desire in you. Perhaps He’s just waiting for you to ask.
“Father, thank You for giving me every reason to believe You for above and beyond the natural. Thank You that nothing and no one is more powerful than You, and I can believe You for the extraordinary. I believe that You are going to show out in my life as You did with Joshua. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

After the prodigal son had taken his father’s inheritance, wasted it all on wild living, and was finally destitute, feeding hogs, it was only the character of his father that gave him the boldness to return home. He knew that there would be judgment from others, especially from his brother, but he knew his father was the key. He remembered how loving, generous, merciful, and compassionate his father was. He did not return to his family house, but to his father, who wonderfully welcomed him and fully restored him as his son. How you see your Heavenly Father will determine whether you stay away from Him or return to Him when you’ve done wrong. Maybe you’re staying away because you have the wrong image of God. You’re letting the lies play: “God won’t receive you. You’ve blown it too many times. You should live guilty and condemned.” No, if you know who your Heavenly Father really is, you will arise and go to Him. You will know that He is waiting with open arms, waiting to celebrate your arrival.
“Father, thank You for who You are, so compassionate and merciful.
Thank You that You are not holding my past against me.
Thank You that I am forgiven. Thank You that I’m redeemed because of what Jesus did on the cross.
I’m coming boldly to Your house right now.

In Genesis 16, Hagar had first treated her mistress, Sarah, with contempt; then Sarah got so upset that she treated Hagar harshly and made her life miserable. Finally, Hagar had had enough and ran away, fleeing into the wilderness. The angel found her beside a spring of water and told her to return and submit to Sarah’s authority. It’s the principle that anything you run from, you’re going to have to go back and deal with eventually. I’m not talking about staying in an abusive relationship, but I am saying you can’t run and change jobs, change friends, change churches, or change spouses every time things get hard. You can’t pack up because you’re uncomfortable. God will give you the grace to be there. The angel went on to say, “If you go back and serve Sarah, God will give you more descendants than you can count.” When you do the right thing when it’s hard, there is a blessing that follows. God will show out in your life and take you to levels that you never dreamed.
“Father, thank You for being the amazing God who can take my messes and the things I’ve run away from and turn them into miracles when I return and face them. Thank You that Your grace is always there to help me. I believe that You are working all things together for my good. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Saul was the biggest enemy of the early church, arresting people who were followers of Christ. He was like a terrorist until a sudden light from Heaven struck him to the ground on the road to Damascus and Jesus revealed Himself to him. That day was a turning point, and Saul eventually became the apostle Paul. If God based His will only on our decisions, Paul wouldn’t have had a chance. The beauty is that God has a sovereign will that overrides our choices and puts us into His purpose. It’s the goodness of God, stepping in and showing us mercy and love when we should have judgment. In Paul’s case, this sovereign act brought him into his destiny to preach the gospel to the Gentiles. When you understand that God is sovereign, that He’s not basing everything on your choices, your ability, or your background, you can stay in peace. Disappointments, losses, and bad breaks are all working according to the plan and purpose He decided long ago. You have to trust that He’s sovereign when you don’t understand.
“Father, thank You for loving me and for never writing me off when I’ve been off course and failed. Thank You that You saw a chosen vessel in Saul when he was persecuting the church, and You’re going to use me as Your instrument as well. I believe You are bringing me into my destiny.

In today’s Scripture, the apostle Paul says that we can be and stay vessels of wood and clay. That’s fine. We’re still God’s creation. We can live with these impurities and still make it through life. But we shouldn’t be just trying to make it through life. We should be desiring to see the greatness God put in us, becoming a vessel of gold that is used for His highest purposes. That happens when we keep letting God refine us, when we keep dealing with what He brings to light. You can’t pray away every problem, every grouchy person, the delays in your schedule, or the loved one who gets on your nerves. Those are tests. They may not change, but you can change.
A key to becoming God’s best is to stay pliable, to walk in humility, to be willing to change.
What can you do to get along better in relationships?
What improvements can you make?
Don’t pray for God to change someone else—your spouse, your boss, your child—without first praying,
“God, show me where I need to change.”
“Father, thank You for calling me to be the best person I can become and for the privilege of representing You as a vessel for Your highest purposes. Thank You that I can dedicate every area of my life to You and always be my best. Keep showing me the things I need to change.

No matter how you feel every morning, no matter how many mistakes you made yesterday or how many weaknesses you’re dealing with now, you need to put on the breastplate of God’s approval. “God, thank You that You approve me, that You accept me, that You love me.” When you put on that approval, chains of insecurity, low self-esteem, condemnation, and guilt are broken. There’s a freedom when you know you’ve been approved by God. You are the apple of His eye. He created you in His own image. Don’t go through life feeling wrong inside. You’re not a finished product. God is still working on you. He doesn’t say, “I’ll approve you when you perform perfectly.” God approves you right where you are. He may not approve what you did, but that’s not who you are. He approves you. You don’t have to work to try to gain God’s approval. You already have it by His grace. You have to shake off the disapproval and remind yourself, “I’ve been approved by the One who matters most. God is pleased with me.”
“Father, thank You that I can put on the breastplate of Your approval to cover my heart because You have made me righteous through Christ Jesus.

One thing that can keep us from our destiny is tongue trouble. If we go around saying negative things about ourself, our family, or our future, it will limit how high we can go. When you say, “I’ll never be successful. I’m not talented. I can’t break this addiction. I always get the flu. After what they did, I’ll never be happy again,” you’re giving those words the right to come to pass. You’re prophesying your future. You’re inviting that into your life. Before you say it, make sure you want it. Get your words going in the right direction. You can’t talk negative and have a positive life. You can’t talk defeat and lack and live victoriously and in abundance. Your words set the course for your life. If you want to know what you’re going to be like five years from now, listen to what you’re saying about yourself. You have to quit speaking defeat over your future and start prophesying victory over your life.
Start talking about the way you want to be. Speak health, speak vitality, and speak abundance.
“Father, thank You that my words give life to my faith and I can use my words to prophesy my future. Thank You that I can use my words to invite healing, freedom, abundance, and strength into my life. I will say what You say about me and what You promise in Your Word. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Before you see the promises of God fulfilled in your life, there will always be tests. Before you go into your promised land, there will be giants and fortified cities, things that look impossible. One way your faith is released is through what you’re saying in times of testing. Your mind will tell you all the reasons it’s not going to happen, and the temptation is to start speaking negatively. That gives life to the doubts and limits what God will do. Don’t let that happen. Speak what God says in His Word about you. Let your words of faith override the doubts. Speak faith when every thought is telling you, “It’s never going to work out. I don’t have what it takes.” You can talk about how bad it’s been, or you can say, “Father, thank You that You have beauty for these ashes. What was meant for harm, You’re turning to my advantage. I’m excited about my future.” That’s what causes God to go to work. That’s when you’ll defeat giants, beat the illness, and the right people will suddenly show up.
“Father, thank You that my faith and trust are anchored to You and Your power at work in my life. Thank You that I don’t have to be moved by the tests and troubles I face because I am fully persuaded You will do what You promised.
I declare that my hope is in You.

It’s no coincidence that the apostle Paul connected “be glad for all God is planning for you” with “be patient in trouble.” That’s because in trouble, in difficulties, and in delays, you’ll be tempted to get discouraged and think, “The medical report is too bad. I had this setback in my career. It’s never going to work out.” None of that is a surprise to God. You don’t know the solution God has already planned. You don’t know where He’s taking you. Be patient in trouble. Be prayerful in trouble. The trouble is not permanent. The trouble is not how your story ends. God wouldn’t allow the difficulty if He wasn’t going to bring you out better. The Scripture says, “God makes everything beautiful in its time.” Give God the time to work it out. Just because you don’t see anything happening doesn’t mean God is not working. Behind the scenes right now, He’s lining up everything that you need. His plans are bigger, better, and more rewarding than you could ever imagine.
“Father, thank You for Your plans for my life and how You will work them out. Thank You that I can trust You in times of trouble and be patient, knowing that You will make it beautiful in its time. I believe that trouble is temporary and You’re going to bring me out better.

Abraham left his home at the call of God, with the promise of His great blessing. But in his journeys in Genesis 12 and 20, he lied to Pharaoh and later to King Abimelek that his beautiful wife, Sarah, was his sister, because he feared they would kill him so they could have her. When the truth came out, Abraham was shamed by them. In Genesis 26, many years later, Abraham’s son Isaac committed the same cowardly act with his wife, Rebekah. Notice how that same negative trait was being passed down. It’s the same way today. It can be a spirit of low self-esteem. Everyone in your family feels unworthy, not good enough, inferior. Or maybe it’s a spirit of mediocrity. No one in your family thinks they can get ahead. Do yourself a favor and get rid of that spirit. You’re made in the image of God. You have royal blood flowing through your veins. Start expecting to rise higher. Start declaring God’s promises over your life. Break that negative cycle and set your family on a new course of freedom.
“Father, thank You that You have made me in Your image and that I am Your child. Thank You that Jesus has redeemed me and set me free from sin and guilt and negative traits that have been passed down to me. I declare that the forces for me are greater than the forces against me.

It’s easy to look at a person who is in need, or situations that require someone to step up and make a difference, and hope that someone shows up. You might even pray, “God, send a deliverer, someone strong, talented, with Your favor, with Your blessing.” But what if you are the one you’re praying for? What if you’re the one to do great things, to set a new standard, to take your family to a new level, but you don’t recognize who you are? When we’re always looking to others, always counting on someone else, it’s because we’re overlooking what God put in us. There is greatness in you. There is talent, wisdom, creativity, and potential in you. Don’t overlook yourself as the answer to that prayer. Don’t discount who you are. You have so much more in you than you realize. Don’t get stuck in an old version🥴 of who you are. There are new versions🙂 of you coming that are stronger👊, wiser💭, more successful📈, and have greater favor📿. God has destined you to do something awesome. He’s destined you to leave your mark.

Today’s Scripture was spoken by the prophet Jonah while he was inside the huge fish that God sent to spare his life after he had disobeyed God’s command. You can imagine how it reeked almost unbearably inside the fish’s digestive system. For eight verses, Jonah had talked about how bad his life was, how he was in the depths of despair, how he didn’t see a way out. All that was true, but it didn’t change his situation. Then in the midst of the stink and difficulties, he suddenly offered up a sacrifice of praise and surrender. That’s what caused God to go to work and have the fish put Jonah back on dry ground to fulfill his destiny. You may be in a stinky situation today. You could describe what you’ve done wrong, how you aren’t treated right, or how you’re not getting well. But that creates an atmosphere of doubt, defeat, and negativity that keeps you where you are. Be a Jonah and send up a shout of praise. Send up faith. Send up hope. You’re about to see that negative situation turn around.
“Father, thank You that when I make a mistake and bring trouble upon myself as Jonah did, You cover me with mercy and give me second chances. Jesus Christ modeled a servant attitude that overflowed with joy. He had all the power in the world. He was the most influential man who ever lived. Yet on the night before He was betrayed, tried, and crucified, He took a towel, bowed down, and washed His disciples’ feet. He could have asked any of the disciples and they would have done it. He could have called an angel and said, “Hey, do Me a favor. Wash their feet. I don’t want to deal with it today.” Instead, Jesus washed their feet one by one. He gave us His example of service to others so we would know we’re never too important to be good to people. We are never too successful or too high to bow down low and serve another person. Jesus said that if you want to be great in God’s kingdom, you have to have a servant’s heart. The more you walk in humility, and the more willing you are to serve others, the higher God can take you. As you lift others, God will lift you.
“Father, thank You that Jesus was willing to come to Earth as a man and then to humble Himself even further by becoming obedient to the point of death. Help me to humble myself and have the same servant heart as Jesus. I want to walk in humility and lift others up. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

In John 5, the man who Jesus healed had been crippled for thirty-eight years. This man never dreamed he’d be able to walk, play ball with his children, dance with his wife, or take a stroll on the beach. That’s the mercy of our God. Notice that Jesus didn’t say, “I’m going to get you a better mat to lay on, lighter and more comfortable. I’m going to get more help and better caregivers.” Jesus came to give the man complete freedom from his problem so that he never needed that mat. Life is too short for you to have things lingering that are holding you back. Sometimes, we don’t realize how restricted we are. We’ve become so used to a dysfunction that it feels comfortable.
You have to stir yourself up. God’s idea of freedom is not to make you more comfortable in a dysfunction but to set you free. It’s to set you on a whole new path of health, peace, joy, and blessing. God is doing a new thing. You’re about to rise, take up your bed, and walk in freedom.

If you can’t see anything in a positive light, if all you see is what your spouse or your child or your boss does wrong, the problem is not with everyone or everything else. At some point you have to look in the mirror and say, “Maybe I’m the one who needs to change. If I’m always critical, maybe I’ve developed a habit of seeing the bad rather than the good. If I’m always skeptical, maybe I’ve trained myself to be cynical and sarcastic rather than believing the best. If I’m always finding fault, maybe I’ve become judgmental and condemning instead of giving people the benefit of the doubt.” What’s the solution? When the temptation comes to be critical, deal with negative thoughts one at a time. If you see something or someone you don’t understand or you don’t agree with, don’t be quick to judge or allow that critical spirit to come out. Instead of seeing them through critical eyes, look at them through God’s eyes. Start praying for them. Train yourself to see and believe the best about them.
“Father, thank You for always calling me to come higher and lay aside everything that keeps me from being my best. Help me to be honest and confront the areas where I struggle with negativity. I believe that with Your help that I can overcome and be victorious. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Sometimes we almost miss the great things God wants to do in and through us because we talk ourselves out of believing what He says. When God told Moses to go and tell Pharaoh to free God’s people from slavery, Moses said, “I can’t do that. I’m not a good speaker.” God’s response was a question: “Moses, who made your tongue?” He was saying, “I’ve already put in you exactly what you need. Take a step of faith, and you’ll discover gifts inside that you’ve never realized are there.” Don’t let the size of your dreams💭 or the challenges👊 to your dreams intimidate you😲. And don’t let naysayers😠 discourage you from pressing forward.🚶🚶♀️👣 You have to realize that God will never put a dream in your heart without first equipping you with everything you need to accomplish it. It’s interesting that in today’s Scripture, the apostle Paul didn’t pray that God would remove every difficulty from the Colossians or deliver them instantly. He prayed that they’d have the strength to go through the tough times with a good attitude. He knew that when we’re being stretched, God is developing our character. If we keep the right attitude, if we remain at peace and rest, we will come out better than we were before. You may be facing some battles today that have you feeling you’re not going to make it. Pray for the strength to go through it with a good attitude. The Scripture says that you have the power of the Most High God inside you to withstand whatever comes your way. You are more than a conqueror, a victor and not a victim. You have to turn the situation over to God and let it go. Don’t let it dominate your thoughts or words. Stay in peace, knowing that God is going to turn it around at the right time and use it to your advantage.
“Father, thank You that Your power to strengthen me in times of difficulty is greater than the greatest force that can ever come against me.

After the religious leaders in Jerusalem criticized Jesus for healing a man on the Sabbath, He told them that their disapproval meant nothing to Him. He wasn’t dependent on who liked or supported Him. He received His approval from His Heavenly Father. We all want to be liked, but too many people let the opinion of others determine what they do and who they are. They run everything through a filter: “How’s this going to make me look? Will others be impressed and applaud, or will they look down on me?” They don’t realize they’re addicted to approval. They have to keep pleasing others in order to feel good about themselves. But some people will never give you their approval no matter what you do. Sometimes people are for you, and sometimes they’re not. Your destiny is not predicated on their approval of you. God laid out your plan. He called you, equipped you, and gave you favor. When you’re secure in who He made you to be, you know you’re valuable, talented, attractive, and a masterpiece. You don’t need anyone else’s validation.

One of the beauties of our God is that He feels what we feel. When Jesus saw Mary and Martha weeping over the death of their brother, Lazarus, “Jesus wept.” He was “deeply moved in spirit and troubled” by their tears. He could feel their heartbreak, their sorrow. There are times when life throws us such a blow that all we can do is weep. What’s interesting is that Jesus already knew He was going to raise Lazarus, yet He entered into their sorrow and began to weep with them. Know this: When you weep, God weeps. When you’re heartbroken, God feels it. When you don’t think you can go on, when you feel overwhelmed, God is right there with you. The Scripture says, “He is close to the brokenhearted.” God used sorrow to prepare Mary and Martha for something amazing—a resurrection. Tears of sorrow gave way to tears of joy, laughter, and celebration. When you’re in a season of struggle and weeping, keep this promise in your spirit: “I know joy is coming. God is about to amaze me.”
“Father, thank You that I never have to wonder about Your unconditional love for me even in the most difficult times. Thank You that You feel what I feel, You weep when I weep, and You are always for me.

Today’s Scripture simply means that you shouldn’t talk about the way you are. Talk about the way you want to be. If you’re struggling in your finances, don’t go around saying, “Oh, man, business is so slow. The economy is so down. It’s never going to work out.” That’s calling the things that are as if they will always be that way. That’s just describing the situation. By faith you have to say, “I am blessed. I am successful. I am surrounded by God’s favor.” The Scripture says, “Let the weak say, ‘I am strong!’”— not the opposite, “I am so tired. I am so run-down.” Let the poor say, “I am well off”—not, “I am broke. I am so in debt.” Don’t call in the wrong things. Have you allowed what somebody said about you to plant negative seeds of what you cannot do? “You’re not smart enough, talented enough, or attractive enough. You’ll always be mediocre and struggle with your weight.” Get rid of those lies. That is not who you are. You are who God says you are.
“Father, thank You that I can call the things that are not as though they were. Thank You that I can use my words to become who I want to be. Thank You that I am not limited by what people have spoken negatively over my life. I believe that I am who You say I am. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

In the book of Esther, a powerful Persian official named Haman tried to push down Mordecai, who was Esther’s cousin. He disrespected Mordecai, tried to make him look bad, then plotted to execute him. But one day the king told Haman to put a royal robe on Mordecai, march him through the streets, and announce to everyone what a great man Mordecai was. Out of all the people the king could have chosen, he specifically chose Haman to honor Mordecai, the very person who was against him. When someone treats you badly, that’s what can happen when you let God vindicate you. Don’t worry about the boss who’s not giving you credit. You’re not working unto people. You’re working unto God, and He is keeping the records. Perhaps instead of you working for that boss, one day that boss may be working for you. Stay in peace. If you let God vindicate you His way, it will be bigger, sweeter, more rewarding, and more honoring than you can imagine. He will make sure you get exactly what you deserve.
“Father, thank You that You are still on the throne and You are my vindicator when I am treated badly. Thank You that You can bring me out of difficulties better off than I was before they showed up. I am going to stay in peace and let You vindicate me Your way. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
