night

A star began to fall across the sky. It flew across the horizon, shone brightly, and seemed to go out, apparently extinguished by its impact on

the ground. Its fall, except for a small handful of astronomers who knew about it well and watched its demise with professional interest, was almost unnoticed by anyone.

Except for the old Texas farmer, John Barnes. He was sitting as usual on the terrace of his farm, drinking a sharp, undiluted whiskey, straight from the bottle, and enjoying the balmy and warm evening, staring blankly at the already almost darkened, late evening sky.

And suddenly a bright glow cut through it, and right over his farm, literally above his head, a star began to fall.

Barnes, already quite drunk, just whistled with delight: "A shooting star, I should make a wish!"

And he didn't mean his words as a joke, but he really meant them.

And so he made a wish. His private, big, secret wish.

But what was crazier was the more he believed in its fulfillment.

And when he had performed this little mental ritual, he took a deep swig from the bottle to confirm its validity, and then an interesting idea came to him.

He felt tempted to go and find the place where the star had fallen. Maybe because, like every evening under the lazy Texas sky, he had nothing to do, but also because a star doesn't fall behind your farm every day.

And so he took another, big swig and set off in the direction where he saw the star had fallen.

He knew the farm surroundings better than his old boots, and so, even though he was in a decent mood, suitably tipsy, he walked without hesitation, without staggering, almost without a single mistake, confidently, and enjoyed this welcome and unexpected adventure.

He walked and walked and suddenly he saw it... A faint light, coming from the ground. It seemed as if something was buried just below the surface.

"A star..." he gasped in surprise.

And suddenly... the light engulfed him and Barnes became a substance. An energetic principle. The material disappeared and he drew closer to God. He was literally returning to his arms. Was the star and his wish to break free from his life as a Texas farmer and experience something better behind that?

Maybe.

Anyway, either way, Farmer Barnes got his wish, so don't forget to make a wish when you see a shooting star. You might get one.

However, also keep in mind that the consequences of your secret and great desires may have such a grand, unexpected and extraordinary denouement, such as the one that befell an ordinary Texas farmer.
